Teaching

My teaching practices focus on the interdisciplenary thenes used to in watershed science. I encourage my students to think about the connections between freshwater ecology, hydrologic processes, and ecosystem function. I emphasize hands-on learning, in class discussions, reproducible data analysis, and the use of environmental monitoring datasets to investigate additional aspects of watershed processes.

GPHS 782: Watershed Science Seminar

University of Nevada, Reno | Fall 2026 This graduate seminar explores watershed hydrology, ecosystem processes, and environmental change through scientific literature discussions, student-led research projects, and applied data analysis.

Topics include:

  • Watershed hydrology and streamflow dynamics
  • Snowpack, groundwater, and climate variability
  • Remote sensing of vegetation and watershed conditions
  • Stream water quality and ecosystem processes
  • Environmental data analysis using R

Course materials: Course tutorials and reproducible workflows are available through my GitHub repositories. GitHub Repository

Data Analysis Tutorials

  • Derived land cover classes from NHD tools Lab 2 link
  • NDVI and remote sensing using NASA AppEEARS Lab 3 link
  • Watershed data visualization and analysis in R

Inclusivity

I believe in inclusive learning environments and support increasing the participation of all students in STEM fields and aquatic science.
